ANEVRYSIS
An aneurysm is defined as a weakening of the walls of a blood vessel that causes it to expand like a balloon. In an aneurysm, the vessel wall is weakened and thinned and there is a risk of rupture. An aneurysm can occur in any part of the body, but most commonly occurs in the abdominal aorta (the main blood vessel that originates from the heart and supplies the whole body), but can also occur in the region of the aorta originating from the heart and in the aorta in the chest. The main cause of aneurysm formation is atherosclerosis.
