Dental Treatments and Aesthetic Dental

Aesthetic and restorative dental treatments include giving the smile a more aesthetic appearance and restoring lost tooth function.

Aesthetic Dentistry

In the past, the best method available for creating aesthetic teeth was to cut, reduce the size of the teeth, and then cover them with porcelain veneers. Now, it is possible to give the patient an aesthetic smile without any wear on the teeth with procedures such as porcelain laminate veneers.

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing or replacing damaged or missing teeth. These procedures help improve oral health and function. Common dental restorations include crowns, bridges, and implants. The main goal of restorative dentistry is to improve oral health and chewing function. Fractures, cracks, and gaps are filled with composite/porcelain fillings. Porcelain fillings (inlays and onlays) are not only solid but also aesthetic fillings, they are first prepared by taking impressions in the laboratory and then placed in the cavity. You may need restorative dentistry if you have:
  • Tooth decay
  • Damaged or broken teeth
  • Missing teeth

What is the difference between restorative and cosmetic dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on improving oral health and function, while cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your smile.

Cosmetic restorative dentistry offers both functional and aesthetic improvements. For example, dental crowns can restore chewing function while also making your smile look more even.

What are Dental Aesthetics and Restorative Dental Procedures?

Teeth Whitening

The use of some prescription drugs, frequent consumption of foods and drinks containing dyes, and the use of tobacco products cause discoloration in the teeth.

Teeth whitening is a procedure that can be applied to healthy and natural teeth. There are two types of whitening: home and office.

In home whitening, the patient’s measurements are taken and thin plates are prepared. Low concentration peroxide gels are placed in these plates. The plates are kept in the mouth overnight. It is applied for 1 week. After the application period, it is requested to stay away from colored liquids and smoking for a few days.

Another type of whitening is in-office whitening. Again, a gum barrier is applied to protect the gums. Then, high peroxide gels are applied to the teeth and the whitening process is performed. This procedure is done in 2-3 sessions. Each session is 15 minutes. Smoking and colored liquids are avoided for 3-4 days.

Dental Cleaning

A professional cleaning is more comprehensive than a home cleaning. This is because we gently remove plaque and tartar.

We polish your teeth with a special brush and a particle-based dental polish during dental cleaning. The dentist will floss your teeth as a final step.

The dentist then injects water into your mouth to clean your mouth. The rinsing phase helps remove any remaining dental polish.

Metal Porcelain Restorations

A fixed prosthesis type with a metal substructure and a porcelain superstructure. It is used to complete aesthetics and function.

Zirconium Restorations

They are resistant restorations with a zirconium substructure used to provide aesthetics and function.

E-Max Restorations

They are castable ceramics used for aesthetic purposes.

Laminate

A very thin restoration type where only the front surfaces of the teeth are abraded for aesthetic purposes, and in some cases this abrasion is not even necessary (Prepless Laminate Veneers).

Implants

Dental implants are screws placed in the jawbone to replace missing teeth. They are one of the least complicated and most successful treatments widely used in dental treatment for the last 30 years. Dental implants are successful treatments, but the decisions of the doctor play a role in this success.

There are 3 types of implant applications:

  • Late implant application
  • Early implant application
  • Immediate implant application

Late implant application means waiting 6 months or longer after the tooth is extracted or implanted in the gaps of teeth extracted years ago. Its advantage is that the risk of infection caused by the extracted tooth is minimized. Its disadvantage is that the bone melts over time since the gap is not exposed to chewing. Most of the time, these millimetric melts make implant placement difficult. Advanced surgical methods may be needed.

Early implant application is performed 6 weeks after the tooth is extracted. The advantage is that soft tissue healing is completed and the effect of the infected tooth is minimized. The implant is placed without bone erosion. The disadvantage is that the two surgical procedures are performed very shortly.

Immediate implant application means that the implant is placed as soon as the tooth is extracted. The advantage is that the procedure is completed in one go. The disadvantage is that the procedure is not performed on teeth with a high risk of infection.

Prosthesis

Dental prosthesis treatment involves the restoration of missing or damaged teeth using artificial devices such as dentures, crowns, bridges or implants. These prostheses not only improve the aesthetics of a person’s smile, but also restore basic functions such as chewing, speech and general oral health. Treatment is tailored to the individual’s needs and offers long-lasting results, with options ranging from removable devices such as full or partial dentures to more permanent solutions such as fixed crowns and bridges or dental implants. Dentures play a key role in improving both the appearance and functionality of a patient’s teeth, contributing to a better quality of life.

Clear Aligners

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, providing an alternative to traditional metal braces. Custom-made aligners are designed to fit snugly over the teeth and apply gentle pressure to shift teeth into the desired position. They are a popular choice for adults and teens looking for a discreet orthodontic solution because they are virtually invisible. The aligners are also removable, making it easier to eat, drink, brush, and floss without the restrictions of braces.

Periodontology

Periodontology specializes in disorders involving the gums and bones of the mouth. It deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease. Our periodontists also help manage symptoms of advanced gum disease, such as mouth irritation.

Gum disease occurs when the tissue surrounding your teeth becomes infected and inflamed. Facial swelling is caused primarily by bacteria that form plaque, which accumulates on your teeth and spreads below the gum line.

Gum inflammation is the early stage of gum disease. With consistent treatment, you can keep this disease under control. As it progresses, more severe gum disease, known as periodontitis, can occur and may require more extensive treatment. In such a case, you should consult your doctor about surgical and nonsurgical options.

Apnea Plaque

Sleep apnea is one of the most important diseases caused by snoring and is referred to as sleep apnea. During sleep apnea, which can occur repeatedly throughout the night, the muscles that keep the upper airways open are relaxed, creating apparatus that creates relaxation.
