What is Hypospadias?

What is Hypospadias?

Hypospadias, also known as prophet circumcision, is a condition in which the urinary hole in boys is located at the bottom of the penis, not at the tip.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF HYPOSPADIAS?

The exact cause is unknown. It is thought that the cause may be defects in the genes involved in the development of the lower urinary tract and excessive consumption of foods containing female hormone (estrogen).

WHY SHOULD HYPOSPADIAS BE TREATED?

  • The urinary opening, which is not in its normal location, may be narrow in people with this disease. Urinary flow may weaken due to stenosis, which may impair bladder functions in the future.
  • After the child reaches adolescence, it may cause psychological disorders due to the abnormal appearance.
  • Children with hypospadias may also have a curvature of the penis. This curvature may cause problems in sexual intercourse in the future.
  • If the urinary opening is too low, sperm cannot be expelled into the vagina, which may lead to infertility.

HOW IS HYPOSPADIAS TREATED?

It is not possible to treat this disease with medication. With a surgical procedure, the urinary opening is moved from the abnormal place of the penis tip to its normal place using the surrounding tissues.
